Behavior Management: From Theoretical Implications to Practical Applications (with InfoTrac®)

Authored by nationally-recognized scholar and behavioral consultant Dr. John W. Maag, this book focuses primarily on students’ observable behaviors and the environmental factors that affect their expression. As Maag points out, behavior management is probably one of the most misunderstood concepts in education. Written in a very accessible style, this book demystifies stereotypical beliefs and misconceptions regarding the use of reinforcement, punishment, and self-control. Maag offers clear, but detailed descriptions of proven intervention techniques, supplemented by a range of step-by-step guidelines, sample forms, charts, graphs and illustrations that assist teachers in implementing these techniques. Although the techniques described in the book are based on a sound theoretical and empirical foundation, the author has limited the use of technical jargon throughout his presentation.

5 Stars My feedback
I needed this book for one of my graduate classes. The university bookstore wanted much more money but the used copies found on Amazon sufficed just fine. The material is very straightforward and easy to understand. I received this book very promptly and in time for me catch up in my class. This book is a psychology book for people considering going into the behavior management of children in the classroom setting. Prior psychology classes will be helpful in learning some of the theories and practices discussed in this text, but it is not necessary. The authors have written the text in such a way that someone with no prior psychology background can pick this up. Very useful and a lifesaver.
5 Stars Very practical and easy to read
John’s book is very reader friendly and he writes in a way that makes it easier to understand the theory behind the principles. If you’ve ever taken a class from him you’ll find that his voice is very much reflected in his writing. John provides many real life examples to demonstrate the practical application of the concepts presented. Great book.
